About the Position:

Working as a Teacher at Atonement Lutheran School means being part of an education team that is committed to forming resilient, Christ-centered learners, equipped with purpose, compassion, and a curiosity for discovery. Here at Atonement Lutheran School, the classroom teacher will be responsible for creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment that fosters faithful, capable learners who live with purpose and lead through compassion and service. This role requires a commitment to implementing innovative teaching strategies to engage students in their learning journey. This position includes instruction in Mathematics, Language Arts, History, Social Studies, Art, Science, and Physical Education as well as participation in the spiritual life and mission of Atonement Lutheran School.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; teaching certification preferred
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is required
  • Commitment to Christian education and willingness to support the vision and mission of Atonement Lutheran School
  • Flexible and strong instructional and classroom engagement/management skills
  • Strong proofreading skills for developing instructional materials and assessments
  • Demonstrated ability in curriculum development tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Proficient in utilizing technology for educational purposes, including interactive learning tools
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively and collaboratively with learners, parents, and staff
  • Possesses the ability to respond well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism

Instruction and Curriculum Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses following the curriculum, scope, and sequence established by the school
  • Develop and implement comprehensive and engaging semester, quarterly, weekly, and daily lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles
  • Demonstrate mastery of assigned subject matter and remain current in educational best practices
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology, materials, and resources to meet diverse learner learning needs and engagement
  • Integrate Biblical principles and a Christian worldview throughout all subject areas
  • Encourage critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Plan and conduct engaging learning experiences, including field trips, guest speakers, and enrichment opportunities with administrative approval

Student Learning and Assessment Responsibilities

  • Educate learners in core subjects, focusing on literacy education and foundational skills
  • Assess learner progress regularly through assignments, projects, classroom participation, and other evaluation methods
  • Conduct MAP testing and assess learner progress, adapting teaching methods as necessary
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance, grades, and assessment records
  • Provide timely feedback to learners and communicate academic progress to parents
  • Notify parents and administration promptly regarding academic concerns or deficiencies
  • Prepare and submit required progress reports and report cards according to school timelines
  • Provide individualized tutoring and support to learners who require additional assistance

Classroom Environment and Learner Development Responsibilities

  • Create a safe, orderly, clean, respectful, and Christ-centered classroom environment
  • Maintain a positive classroom environment that encourages respect, responsibility, and cooperation among learners
  • Implement school-approved discipline policies and classroom management practices
  • Respect and support the academic, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual development of each learner
  • Serve as a mentor and positive Christian role model
  • Encourage learner leadership, responsibility, and confidence through classroom and extracurricular opportunities
  • Employ library services to promote reading and research skills among learners

Spiritual Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in daily devotions, prayer, weekly chapel services, and other faith-based activities
  • Demonstrate Christian values in interactions with learners, families, colleagues, and the community
  • Support the vision, mission, and ministry of Atonement Lutheran School
  • Foster faith formation through the use of a Christ-centered religion curriculum

Communication and Collaboration Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive and professional communication with learners, parents, staff, and administration
  • Collaborate with the education team on curriculum development, instructional strategies, and school improvement initiatives
  • Work cooperatively with administration to support learner success and school goals

Professional Responsibilities

  • Prepare substitute teacher information, including lesson plans, seating charts, and classroom procedures
  • Supervise learners during assigned duties, extracurricular activities, and school events
  • Support, adhere to, and enforce all school policies and procedures, state regulations, and mandatory reporting requirements regarding learner welfare and child protection
  • Attend and participate in education team meetings, professional development activities, and school events as required
  • Inform administration promptly if unable to fulfill assigned duties
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters

Be able to…

  • …lift, carry, or shift supplies, books, furniture, and equipment
  • …sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, etc. on a daily basis
  • …perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading
  • …monitor learners in a variety of locations with noise, activity, and inclement weather

Additional Specifications

  • Salary to be determined annually by the Atonement Lutheran School Board
  • Will receive CPR certification
  • A background check will be conducted upon application for employment
  • Upon hiring, he or she will be required to complete the Ministry Safe Training, as provided by the school, prior to the first day of school
